Post #2 - Design Justification

Set in a predominant dark blue background, at first glance, the design of my blog page gives readers a serene, calming feeling, allowing them to relax, as "Blue is the colour of the mind and is essentially soothing" (Wright). The color blue is also associated with intellect and effective communication, and attribute that I further developed by using simplistic clear fonts, such as Lato and Arial, with clear line strokes and no additional flair, so that all the text is easily readable, and looks professional (Purdue Writing Lab). The background picture I choose shows a control room with stylistic elements that imply it is very technical, which adds a touch of personality, as I am an avid programmer. The light panels around the room glow in multiple different colors, adding more personality and life because although I am primarily logical and analytical, I can also be passionate, creative, honest, vivacious, and well balanced as an individual (Wright), and the multi-colors represent that. The splash of neon color in the words and in the picture also serve to add an element of lightheartedness, balancing out the “power, luxury, sophistication and exclusivity” (Gross) of the black in the background, and adding a little more light to the dark blue, almost black, background.

Post #14: Robert Burns Supper Extra Credit

As my Burns Supper Extra Credit, I put together a costume to reflect something that a Scottish person would wear. Because of Scottland's geographical location, in my research of Scottish attire, it was common to see multiple layers of clothing. The traditional dress, called the Highland dress, is characterized by a tartan (plaid) pattern that is then accessorized with jackets, badges, and sashes as an indication of family and heritage. Using these elements, I chose to create a layered tartan look by clothespinning and tying two flannel shirts around a simple, base dress to create a similar look to a Highland dress. As I did not have a plaid skirt, I chose a simple navy dress as a base instead and choose to layer on tartan elements instead.
